In fine company

The curtain will rise on the BMW M2 Cup from 23 to 25 July on one of the most prestigious stages in world motorsport. The new single-make trophy will form part of the DTM calendar, where BMW fans will feel right at home.

“Everyone in international motorsport knows about the DTM,” says series manager Jörg Michaelis. “We take great pride in the fact that the BMW M2 Cup is on the DTM calendar. It is hugely beneficial to us, providing us with a high-quality paddock and plenty of opportunities for our young drivers to move up the career ladder.”

The series’ young talent has the chance to show off their skills right in front of the teams competing in the DTM and DTM Trophy. “Teams in the DTM will be racing the BMW M6 GT3, while the BMW M4 GT4 is raced in the DTM Trophy,” explains Nico Amende, Sales & Marketing at BMW M Motorsport. “There’s no doubt that all the teams will be keeping a close eye on performances in the BMW M2 Cup.”

BMW is a firm fixture throughout the DTM platform, including in historic racing. There are plenty of BMWs involved in the DTM Classic, including the BMW M3 E30 DTM, providing an exciting glimpse at the early years of the touring car championship.

Frederic Elsner, director event & operations at the DTM organisation ITR, says: “BMW has had a long tradition in the DTM and we are delighted that the brand is playing an important role in all of our championships. It is great that the BMW M2 Cup will now be racing at Lausitzring for the first time, but above all exclusively on the DTM platform. It is a great addition to the entire portfolio and I can’t wait to see which talents will make it into the 2022 DTM Trophy.”
