The BMW M2 Cup kicked off its season at the Lausitzring on 24 and 25 July. The one-make trophy not only offered exciting racing action but also presented itself as an attractive platform promoting young talent. To further expand support for aspiring young drivers, the BMW M2 Cup and the German Kart Championship (DKM) have forged a partnership.

“We’re very excited about partnering with the DKM. Together, we can accomplish a great deal for young talent in the sport,” said series manager, Jörg Michaelis. “Demands in motorsport are complex, which is why we offer the BMW M2 Cup drivers holistic basic training with our Speed Academy – both on and off the racetrack. In the future, our aim is to promote DKM talent as part of the series as well.”

The partnership offers kart drivers an exciting opportunity. The champions of the German Shifterkart Championship and the DMSB Shifterkart Cup will be given the chance to win a day’s testing in a BMW M2 CS Racing, the official race car used in the championship.

Also enthusiastic about the commitment is DKM series coordinator Stefan Wagner: “Young talent in motorsport is close to all our hearts. It’s wonderful to be able to link the two competitions. For the champions of the two series, it’s a good opportunity to complete their first laps in a touring car.”

The cooperation between the top German kart racing championship and the new one-make trophy was established together with DKM patron Jörg Bergmeister. The 45-year-old is no stranger to the organisers of the BMW M2 Cup, Project 1 Drivetime. “We have been working with Jörg for a very long time. Together, we competed in the World Endurance Championship and celebrated the title. Now we look forward to supporting young talent together,” Michaelis continued.
