From sunshine to pouring rain – due to heavy rainfall, the second round of the BMW M2 Cup at the Red Bull Ring had to be cancelled.
“We are obviously disappointed not to be able to race today, but the decision of the race control is the correct one. There is simply too much water on the track – and the rain is not expected to stop any time soon. A race in these conditions would be too dangerous,” explains series manager Jörg Michaelis. “We are a championship for young talents, many of our drivers don’t have that much experience yet, especially in such conditions. Therefore, we have to pay special attention to the safety of our pilots.”
Now, the focus is on the grand finale: from 7 to 9 October, the last two races of the season are scheduled at the Hockenheimring. Not only will they decide who will be crowned champion of the BMW M2 Cup, but the rookie classification is also still up for grabs.
